Oslob has now become a tourist destination at South Cebu. And it has well received its visitors with a good number of accommodations for tourists to choose from. Locals, and foreigners flood Oslob for the whale watching activity, cultural tours, and outdoor tourist destinations. You can easily travel from Cebu City to Oslob but it would be great that you stay if you plan to experience everything it has to offer. We researched for cheap Oslob accommodations before our travel dates.
After our Kawasan Canyoneering Adventure, we wanted to trek the famous Osmeña Peak. We extended our stay at Badian, South Cebu, and stayed at Matutinao Beach Resort for the night. We decided to head the next day to Osmeña Peak at Dalaguete, Cebu! It was a tiring, b*tt-numbing ride on the habal-habal for nearly TWO hours! The road that connects Badian and Dalaguete, Cebu is in good condition but when you enter Dalaguete and heads towards Osmeña Peak can be a bit brutal to your behinds. It was also a bad idea to wear slippers but with wet footwear, we had no choice but to pray that the rain clouds would not rain on us. Here is a quick share of the Osmeña Peak experience!

The last stop for Kawasan Canyoneering was the Kawasan Falls. I’ve read, and seen a lot of photos of the waterfalls, and I have to admit that I was doubtful of some photos because it looked totally enhanced. If you’ve seen this waterfalls on photos already but haven’t been there yet or you feel the same way before you saw it for yourself — you’ll totally get what I mean. Why is the water basin Crayola Battery Charge Blue colour?! Uhm, yes, Crayola have cool colour names.
After our energy draining but awesome South Cebu canyoneering experience, we decided to extend our stay at Matutinao Beach Resort and moved the Osmeña Peak visit early the next day. We were told it was going to be a long travel to Dalaguete from Badian, and the only option to take was habal-habal. With heavy backpacks on, and loaded on one of the local transport motorcycle for hire which Filipinos call Habal-Habal, we readied ourselves for a b*tt-numbing ride of who knows how long.
We met up with Marky at Moalboal, Cebu town proper. He would be joining our Kawasan Canyoneering at Badian, Cebu. We looked for a place to eat, and all agreed the place to find that is within near vicinity of the university by the highway. After our quick, and cheap lunch infront of the university, we walked towards the bus stop infront of Gaisano Moalboal and waited for a Ceres Bus with a Bato via Barili route.
If not for people we meet, and for people who loves travelling as much as we do, we end up limiting ourselves to what interests us, and what already ready information available during travel planning. Lambug Beach at Badian Cebu was not in our itinerary — really glad to have met Backpacking with a Book who highly recommended this one!
Moalboal, South Cebu is one of the diving destinations in Cebu. Locals, and foreign tourists alike flood to this seaside town for some beach time, and other sea activities. must say that it can be a bit difficult to find cheap accommodation around. But if you’re lucky you can score backpacker rate places to stay. But if leisure, and relaxation is up your alley and you have a extra to spare on resorts you might want to check out the cheap to high end accommodation on the list below.
After our quick lunch and trying out Cebu’s Lechon at Carcar City, we headed to Moalboal. Moalboal is a coastal town in south Cebu best known for its diving spots. Much as we wanted to try diving, and just any other explorations Moalboal had to offer, we went there for some relaxation. Continue reading SOUTH CEBU | Finding White Beach at Moalboal
Our original itinerary would’ve drained our energy. Every local travel blogger we met agreed that it was a suicide mission. So cancelled Bantayan Island, and decided to go to Moalboal instead — but first, trying out Cebu’s Lechon at Carcar City. We headed to the South Bus Terminal to take a bus from Cebu City to South Cebu, and made sure it was around lunch time that we pass by Carcar City for lunch. We wanted to taste the infamous and highly recommended Cebu Lechon.
One of the travel, and adventure highlight at South Cebu is the Kawasan Canyoneering. Here is a detailed guide on what you need to know and prepare for. South Cebu not only has beautiful beaches, great diving sites, and numerous waterfalls to get lost at, it also now boasts as one of the must-go-to spot for downstream canyoneering in the Philippines.
When we got back to Cebu City, we were looking for place to stay within the city proper that is of near proximity to the malls, and establishments. We were also looking for a place that is within our budget range. Good thing The Maxwell Hotel Cebu fits right in what we needed, and wanted. The Maxwell Hotel Cebu is a business and budget hotel in one. It is ideal for business trips, or leisure travelers with its strategic location near business, and shopping centers. They also arrange car rental, and travels for North and South Cebu if you plan to take day trips anywhere near or within Cebu after your business arrangements.
Best place to stay when in Cebu City
We were already on the last leg of our Cebu adventure trip, and we did not want to spend too much but we also preferred a nice place to stay within the busiest part of the city for food, and business center accessibility. If you’ve looked for accommodations in Cebu City, you will find that there are a lot of choices to choose from. The reason why we went for The Maxwell Hotel Cebu was the location – facing one of the busiest, and developed streets in the city, finding and getting a cab/taxi was not a problem. If you want to commute, the local Filipino mode of transport, jeepneys are also available. We knew that we were at the right spot. Located at Escario St. near the Capitol, it was a few minutes away from Ayala Mall, with food establishments, coffee shops, pharmacy, 24H shops within walking distance.
Clean, simple, and affordable
The room is spacious compared to your usual budget hotels, and accommodations. I’m particular to leg room, and you would not expect a budget hotel to be as spacious as having an extra bed and still be able walk around the room comfortably. And even when the hotel is located in front of one of the busiest streets in Cebu, the traffic noise does not reach the room where we stayed.
One of the requirements I have when looking for accommodation is fast internet connection when I’m traveling and working on the road. The first thing that I do is usually test it out first thing so I would know if I needed to find a coffee shop to work at the next day. Good thing that The Maxwell Hotel Cebu has fast internet connection for me to do my daily online video meeting for work. The meeting would usually last for an hour, and it enabled me to do my work, and meeting without internet connection disruption.
Great value for money plus more
They have complimentary breakfast of generous serving that you can take at the breakfast lounge or inside your room. You will also find the only 24H Cebu’s Original Lechon Belly branch at the ground floor – a must try when you’re in Cebu as well. There is also a laundry shop where you can also have your clothes washed should you need to, or have the hotel do it. (Discounted rates)
Minor requests met
We requested an additional seat for us. The table was large and wide enough to accommodate 3-4 people but there is only one chair, so we had to request additional seat. There is also no water heater in the room for late night coffee, and I’m not sure if you can request a water heater, but you can request hot water to be sent to the room.
I definitely recommend it as top places to stay when in Cebu City. You can call ahead for reservation, or book online on their website. If you’re looking for cheaper rates, you might light to check out The Maxwell Hotel Cebu on Agoda for some discounted rates.
On the first night of of Cebu exploration, we made it a point to look for a hotel that is strategically located near the airport, and the North Bus Terminal. Since we were planning to go the Bantayan Island the day after, we wanted to stay at a hotel that is not within Metro Cebu to skip traffic.
Have I told you that I visited Guimaras Island for a day during the week long Iloilo trip I did? I probably haven’t. I’m bad at sharing travel stories fresh, and hot from the oven. By the time I have this published. the dark shades of brown I got from being sun burnt from that trip has faded, or darken more from the following travels I had after that, and barely visible hints of rashes from too much sun exposure.
Went to Iloilo City without any definite itinerary. Good thing I was travelling with a blogger friend who invited me to join his trip when one of our other friend could not join him. He came in prepared with his own well-planned itinerary which I was glad that he did. Here is a quick and useful travel guide around Iloilo City: Continue reading ILOILO CITY | Getting To Know Iloilo On Foot
It was a pretty long walk around the Iloilo center, and seeing old building with people, and people vehicles making their way along the streets of the city. And in middle of the day under the heat of the sun we took refuge, and some took with us historical, and cultural learnings inside the Museo de Iloilo. –<center><!– Travel | Content | 336×280
Iloilo City, I tell, is one of those places I visited that made it seem like I fit in — that I’m no alien. Even when their dialect is a new to me, as I was to their streets, it did not sound difficult to comprehend it’s context. And in the few days I was there, it felt like I could call it a second home.
If you’re into old architecture, and old churches — Iloilo would be one of the best travel destination for you. I heven’t been to all the old churches but I have to say that the ones I went to are structures one would never tire of. Ofcourse, it’s a place of worship, but I meant that the architectural details are spot on, and you can only imagine the weary soiled, and callused hands that built them.
If you’re planning to stay at Iloilo City for a night, or several nights to explore the city, and it’s neighboring travel destination islands, here is a helpful guide on list of accommodations to choose from. I usually book my stay at either Agoda, or Hostel World online to get some great discounted rates, and just pay later when I’m checked in. The links below are directed to Agoda to help you secure a room.
